MARK HOURIGAN

FOUNDER and CEO

Our June speaker, Mark Hourigan, is the founder and CEO of Hourigan,  a Virginia-based integrated construction and development firm. Mark will provide insight into the area’s capital construction market and a very timely update on Richmond’s plans for the transformation of the 67-acre “Diamond District” site along Arthur Ashe Boulevard that includes The Diamond baseball Stadium and the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Athletic Center.

Our meeting with Mark is very timely, as Hourigan is one of three finalists selected from 15 initial proposals who have been selected to respond to the City’s formal request for proposals on the potential project. Final proposals are due just two days before we meet on Thursday, June 30, and the City hopes to announce a final decision as soon as late July.

Headquartered in Richmond, Hourigan was founded in 1993 with just four employees. As of 2020, the firm had 250 employees and revenue of $466 million according to ENR Mid-Atlantic, which named the Hourigan the Contractor of the Year in 2021. A quick review of the company’s portfolio indicated that at least 5 of the venues where Encorepreneur has met in the last 8 years were Hourigan projects.

Mark is a graduate of Gettysburg College and received his MBA from the University of Richmond. He is very active in the Richmond community, serving on industry boards for the Richmond Real Estate Group, The Richmond Forum, Virginia Tech's School of Building Construction, and many others. He has also served on the board of professional and charitable organizations, including The Powell Center for Economic Literacy, Collegiate School, Medical College of Virginia Foundation, and Faison School for Autism.
