Cristo Rey Richmond High School


Peter McCourt will tell us about the Cristo Rey network of four year college preparatory schools that will open its RIchmond location in the old Benedictine High School building in 2019. Cristo Rey uses a unique business oriented model to provide a quality private school experience to students from under served, low-income communities.

Each Cristo Rey school manages a corporate work study program that employs every student five days a month in an entry-level, professional job all four years of high school. A team of four students shares one entry-level job at a professional organization, allowing students to earn the majority of their high school tuition while gaining real-world work experience. 

Cristo Rey Richmond High School will open in September of 2019 in the former.home of Benedictine High School. The initial class of freshmen is expected to have 100 members with a full capacity of 400 students by 2023. . 
The Cristo Rey network includes 35 Catholic college preparatory schools that today serve 11,000+ students across 21 states and DC.The schools admit students of all faiths and cultures, and nearly 50% of Cristo Rey students are not Catholic. 

More than 90% of Cristo Rey graduates enroll in college and are 2.5 times as likely to graduate as members of the communities the schools serve. Annual retention of corporate partners who employ the students is nearly 90%, and 95% of student employees exceed expectations of their employers.

Our June  Host, and the 44th different venue to host an Encorepreneur breakfast, is the Zacharias Ganey Health Institute at the corner of Midlothian Turnpike and the Powhite Parkway. The facility houses an "all under one roof" preventive medicine program to treat health issues and diseases associated with overweight, abnormal eating, and the sedentary, American lifestyle.
