DR. PAULA PANDO
"Is Your College Ready for Its Students?"

Dr. Paula Pando, the new president of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, has a clear vision for the nearly 5o year old institution. Simply put, she believes that the college should be ready for its students rather than asking the students to be ready for college. She wants the school to be laser focused on intentionally serving the students who need it the most. In March, Dr. Pando will give us an overview of her vision for Reynolds Community College and the unique partnership that is behind one of the most visible examples of that vision – “The Kitchens at Reynolds”.

Dr. Pando is the school's fourth president, and comes to Richmond from Hudson County Community College in New Jersey. She has more than 25 years of experience in both public and private higher educations.

Part of a development backed by Steven Markel, local businessman and vice chairman of Henrico-based Markel Corp, The Kitchens at Reynolds is the new name of the culinary school that will move from the 6th floor of a downtown building to its new home in the Church Hill community this fall. The school’s campus, revamped curriculum, and even its new name are all designed to better prepare students for jobs and careers that provide family sustaining wages within the RVA region. The larger project will include affordable apartments, a new VCU Health Hub, and a full-service grocery store in the supermarket-deprived East End.
