THE SOUND OF MUSIC

The Richmond Symphony, "The Olympics of the Violin" & Backstage at The Carpenter Theatre

On Tuesday March 24, David Fisk, the Executive Director of the Richmond Symphony will lead us through an interesting presentation exploring the vibrant Richmond performing arts scene with a special emphasis on the Symphony and its unique role in hosting the "Olympics of the Violin" in May. Guests will even have the chance to go backstage at the Carpenter Theatre, and we wil enjoy live music during breakfasts.

Our Encorepreneur audience will experience some "firsts" during the morning:

  • Our first visit to the Dominion Energy Center - we will be in Rythym Hall for coffee and the presentation.
  • Our first chance to visit the backstage at the historic Carpenter Theatre**
  • Our first time to enjoy live music during  an encorepreneur breakfast
  • An introduction to the Symphony's role in hosting the Menuhin International Violin Competition this coming May. Last held in Geneva Switzerland in 2018 and called  'the Olympics of the Violin’, it is the  world’s leading international competition for young violinists under the age of 22

** For those who can stay a little while longer at the end, we’ll be given a private tour of the Carpenter Theatre, insights into the story of this beautiful facility, and a guide to the backstage areas not normally available to the public.

OUR HOST

The cornerstone of the Dominion Energy Center is the fully renovated, historic Carpenter Theatre. This grand theater has nearly 1,800 comfortable, spacious seats, state-of-the-art acoustics and brilliant lighting, including new fiber optics that enhance the ceiling’s sparkling stars. After 84 years of providing entertainment to the community, The Carpenter Theatre and the RIchmond Performing Arts Alliance are excited that the space has been restored for new audiences to enjoy .

Added on to the Carpenter Theatre is Dorothy Pauley Square. On the first floor, multi-purpose venue Rhythm Hall features local performing artists and an array of activities, concerts and community gatherings. Just upstairs is Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse, a 200-seat theater that provides an intimate venue for local performers and audiences to experience the arts.
