Our July breakfast will be at Chippenham Hospital where we will hear about the  the continuous advancements in robotic technology that are shaping the future of surgery and health care. Our speakers are Drs. Daniel Woolly and John Metersky, Richmond-based surgeons specializing in the use of robotic surgery platforms. 

The use of robotics in medicine dates to the early 1980s and new developments in the field have constantly revolutionized surgical procedures by offering increased precision, dexterity, and control to surgeons. Today's robotic surgery platforms provide advanced capabilities like 3D high-definition vision with 10 times the magnification of the human eye and range of motion capabilities greater than the human hand promising even more efficient and effective ways of delivering healthcare in the future.

Robotic Surgery - Lung Cancer Detection and Removal
Daniel Woolley, MD, FACS, is a cardiothoracic surgeon with specialized expertise in minimally invasive robotic surgery with Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates here in Richmond. Dr. Woolley earned his medical doctorate at Temple University School of Medicine and completed both a general surgical residency and surgical research fellowship at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School before moving to Richmond to finish a cardiothoracic surgery residency at VCU’s Medical College of Virginia. He currently serves on HCA Healthcare’s National Thoracic Operations Council and is active member of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Robotic Surgery - Patient Outcomes & the Quadruple Aim
John Metersky, M.D., is a board-certified general and robotic surgeon with Surgical Associates of Richmond. Dr. Metersky earned his Medical Doctorate and completed his general surgery residency training at University of Texas Health Sciences Center. Dr. Metersky specializes in minimally invasive abdominal surgery, with a special interest in benign and malignant diseases of the stomach, small and large intestine. Dr. Metersky is certified by the American Board of Surgery and has more than 20 years of surgical experience. In addition to direct patient care, he is a lecturer and instructor of robotic surgery. Dr. Metersky was an Adjunct Professor of Surgery for University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine.
