"AN OLYMPIC EXPERIENCE"
The February Encorepreneur breakfast will provide a fitting conclusion to the Winter Olympics we’ve enjoyed over the past several weeks. We will be meeting at the facilities of Special Olympics Virginia to learn more about the sports training and athletic competition programs it provides to millions of athletes with intellectual disabilities.
We will hear directly from several Special Olympics athletes, who will share their personal experiences — what participation means to them, how it has shaped their lives, and why these opportunities matter. Staff members will also introduce us to the history, mission, and day-to-day work of Special Olympics Virginia, and explain how individuals and communities can support its work.
Beyond competition, Special Olympics emphasizes leadership development, health initiatives, social connection, and life skills. Athletes gain confidence, independence, and a strong sense of belonging, while families and communities benefit from greater understanding, inclusion, and connection.
