AMERICA'S 250th
Meeting the MomentVirginia Museum of History & Culture
Our May meeting will focus on how VMHC is helping tell Virginia’s story during—and beyond—the 250th anniversary of America’s founding coming up in 2026. We’ll get to see the results of the museum’s $30 million renovation completed in 2022, and hear from VMHC President & CEO Jamie Bosket about what’s planned for this historic milestone. Jamie will also introduce us to the "new" VMHC created by the $30 million renovation of the Virginia Historical Society's home completed in 2022.
VMHC has actually been at the planning table for this event for a while. Since 2017, the museum has helped bring together leaders from across the Commonwealth to prepare for the anniversary—work that led to the creation of the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission, which now leads Virginia’s official effort. But they didn’t stop with planning.
They’ve been building partnerships across the state—working with organizations, communities, and individuals to create programs, exhibitions, and events that highlight Virginia’s role over the past 250 years. The approach isn’t “dust off the history books.” It’s more like: here’s our story, here’s how it shaped the country, and here’s why it still matters. The goal is to turn a big anniversary into something meaningful, lasting—and genuinely interesting to a broad audience.
