    Our November speaker, compare.com's CEO Andrew Rose, gave us a very interesting introduction to the potential impact of driverless cars  and related technologies on our future lives. An article in the UVAToday digital newspaper explores the same topic.     Henrico County-based Compare.com, which enables people to price-comparison shop for automobile insurance online, is now offering bundled auto and homeowner insurance quotes in four states.

    The company has rolled out the free comparison service for bundled insurance in Virginia, Texas, Illinois and Ohio and plans to expand it to other states by early next year, when it also plans to start offering quotes for stand-alone homeowners insurance.

    Compare.com, founded in Henrico in 2013, previously offered comparisons only for automobile insurance.

    Congratulations to Liz Doerr, on her election to the Richmond School Board on Tuesday. Liz is one of the encprepreneurs that works for NRV, a local venture and private equity investment company. 

    Liz has worked in the non-profit sector, politics and business and has been an active volunteer in many community organizations. Her campaign got an unexpected boost last Saturday when she was endorsed by President Obama thanks to her work in Organizing for America in 2010.

    Her commitment to children prompted her to make her first run for political office. Liz knocked on 8,000 doors during her campaign in the 1st District, and her tireless work was rewarded when she won 67% of the nearly 12,000 votes cast. 

    Liz earned an undergraduate degree in Economics and an MBA from William & Mary, and worked in finance at CSX and Norfolk Southern before joining NRV.

    On Veteran's Day, we would like to repost a story about one of our most popular breakfast speakers, Dr. Bruce Heilman.

    Dr. Heilman is a veteran of WWII, having served in Iwo Jima during the war and in Nagasaki after the war ended. This past summer, at the age of 90, he is rode his Harley cross country to generate interest in the WWII veteran's group,"The Spirit of '45".
